If you’re currently struggling to find a job in your chosen line of work, it’s important to consider relocation. That is straightforward advice to say the least, but it’s not meant to downplay the significance of such a decision. When deciding whether relocation is right for you, many factors come into play, including local taxes and home prices. That’s probably why it’s no wonder that Ipsos, an independent market research company, recently found that 55% of Canadians would not move out of their province for any reason whatsoever, and 46% would only consider it. That leaves only about 1% of Canadians who are very willing to move out of their home provinces.

Still, despite the logistical and emotional challenges associated with relocation, many Canadians would do well to consider moving. Recent numbers from Statistics Canada shine a light on where jobs in Canada are most likely to be found:

To no one’s surprise, Western Canada boasts the most opportunities, primarily because of the booming energy sector, which makes provinces like Saskatchewan and Alberta particularly appealing to engineers, who also happen to be in one of Canada’s most thriving careers and most in-demand professional designations. However, StatCan also recently showed that the greatest wage gains were in Manitoba and Nova Scotia, although some argue that these gains are only the result of low-wage jobs disappearing as the number of jobs in each of those provinces has actually declined over the past year.

Despite shortages in job openings in parts of Eastern Canada, for instance, certain jobs are in definitely in demand and certain sectors are in fact booming, such as offshore oil drilling in Newfoundland. Hence, it’s important to consider relocation in Canada from coast to coast.
